The Obstetric and Gynaecological Society of Salem was started in 1989 by the visionary effort of Dr.P.Chellammal and a commendable support from Dr.K.Arthanari. The first OGSOS Council was formed then by Founder President Dr.A.R.Saraswathy, Founder Secretary Dr. P.Chellammal, Treasurer Dr.Chithra Sampath, Vice President Dr.N.S.Mahalakshmi, and Joint Secretary Dr.P.Radhamani with ten executive committee members.
Monthly Meetings were conducted every 3rd Thursday in the beginning. Stalwart invited faculties, Interesting case presentations and healthy discussions were the highlights.
Within 2 years of starting the society in 1991 OGSOS was given with the opportunity to successfully conduct an international conference – ASIA OCEANA CONFERENCE with faculties from U.S, U.K, Singapore, and Australia and from various part of INDIA. It was a huge success and earned OGSOS its scientific reputation. Consistently members were added up and the society grew up in numbers.
OGSOS has been very academically active since its inception, organised regular CMEs, conducted conferences, live workshops and many Hands-on workshops.
